
Thick Espresso Shots

Lately, I've been getting more and more into ordering straight shots of espresso at different coffee shops when I go to them (most of them not very good). I have an admiration of espresso machines and I am fascinated with how they work and the absolute beauty of a nice espresso machine. Something about how they are incredible to look at in any kitchen and the beauty of the espresso while it is dripping out from the portafilter.
For me, this beauty translates to an absolute joy to drink. The strength and complexity of a well-made espresso shot is something that I know takes a lot of work. I mean, a LOT of work sometimes.
But, when it all comes together -
- Temperature
- Time
- Freshness of the beans
- Roast level of the beans
- Grind size of the beans
- Portafilter basket
- Water chemistry
- Puck prep
- Pressure applied to the puck
The output is just amazing.
