The Espresso Sidecar: A Refreshing Twist on Your Espresso

Ever tried espresso with sparkling water? We've gone to a couple of coffee shops lately and seen that it's becoming more popular as a way to enjoy espresso with a palate cleanser. Not only does it look cool, but it actually helps make the espresso experience more enjoyable than just drinking straight espresso over and over again.

What’s an Espresso Sidecar?

I personally like the name "Sidecar". It reminds me of the sidecars on a motorcycle for an extra passenger, or a dog :). It is a shot of espresso with a side of sparkling water. The idea is to sip the espresso, then take a quick sip of the sparkling water to reset your palate. It’s a little ritual that helps you enjoy the coffee without any lingering aftertaste.

It helps make every sip of espresso fresh and new. For me, it helps bring out the flavor profile from the shot, especially with lighter roasts.

How to Enjoy It

  1. Brew your espresso: A good shot is key, so make sure it’s fresh. I personally like drinking the High Tide Roast as straight espresso. The fruitiness from the naturally-processed Bali beans starts to come out
  2. Chill the water: Serve the sparkling water very cold. No ice, but sparkling water straight from the fridge. Maybe even a cooled glass.
  3. Sip & reset: Drink your espresso, then take a sip of sparkling water. Keep going until you’re satisfied.
  4. Play around: Try different espressos and sparkling waters to find your favorite combo.

Why Try It?

If you’re looking for something new or just want a way to really enjoy your espresso, the sidecar is a fun twist. It’s a great way to experience your coffee in a whole new way. Next time you’re at the cafe, ask for an espresso sidecar. You might just get hooked.

Happy Brewing!
