Cowboy Coffee - What and Why?
Share
We write a lot about our crowd favorite - Cowboy Coffee. Perhaps it is because the general public enjoys darker coffee and that is what they are more accustom to. However, I think the blend of the Uganda, Brazilian, and Robusta beans makes for a complex cup that really packs a punch of caffeine and familiarity. Let's walk through what this means:
- Uganda Beans - Unique, woody, earthy beans that aren't too common in the coffee industry for standard everyday coffee. I think this woody bean brings us closer to nature? Maybe making it more familiar.
- Brazilian Beans - This is a bean that everyone drinks, usually all the time, but they might not know it. Brazilian beans are common in standard, diner shop or gas station coffee. It is familiar, smooth, and doesn't have too much flavor other than... well... coffee.
- Robusta - We typically source our Robusta beans from Indonesia or El Salvador. Both give similar flavor notes. On its own, Robusta beans are not very pleasurable. However, when blended carefully for a dark roast it can really beef up the body and complexity in the cup.
As for the smokiness, I usually turn down the fan on the roaster when the beans are developing, further adding to the smoky flavor that gives this coffee its name, Cowboy Coffee.
Happy Brewing!
